1. What is the difference between Do paper and Duong paper?
Do paper and Duong paper are two types of traditional handmade paper, with characteristics of durability, toughness, light foamy texture and many advantages compared to industrial paper. If Do paper is made from the Do tree, Duong paper is made from the bark of the Duong tree. Those who have experienced both types of paper can see that Duong paper is sharper and stronger than Do paper, but Do paper is also smoother and softer.
2. Types of do paper and duong paper
Currently, at Zó we have both Do paper and Duong paper with many diverse types. Let's look at them together!
- Sort by paper type:
1. Do paper: in addition to traditional Do paper from Bac Ninh, Zo also has Do paper in Da Bac produced by people in Sung village. This is also a community support activity from Zo to Sung village.
The highest quality Do paper product is decree paper - a type of paper that in the past was only used for kings to issue decrees, now only Duong O village, Bac Ninh can still produce standard decree paper.
2. Duong Paper: the supply of paper in Zo mainly comes from artisans in Hoa Binh. In addition to the paper with the original color of the bark, the unique feature of Duong paper is that it has been created and experimented by artisans with completely natural dyeing: turmeric, Fibraurea tinctoria, indigo, rosewood... or even drops from unique tree leaves.
- Sort by thickness: Thickness of Do paper ranges from peel 1 to peel 10 (Peel 1 is the thinnest and gradually increasing from then on), however the most popular are still peels 2,3,4 (see photo above)
