Our papermaking villages
We currently works with 04 villages to promote our Vietnam traditional handmade paper
01. Dao Tiền ethnic
Làng Sưng, Đà Bắc, Hòa Bình
We found this village in 2017. It's where they grow Dó tree (Rhamnoneuron balansae). They only trade Dó bark but lost their own tradition of making paper. So we started to give them for training them how to make Dó paper since 2022. We belived by this way, a sustainable value chain will be created and will bring a good income for our villagers.
02. Mường ethnic
Suối Cỏ, Lương Sơn, Hòa Bình
We started to work with Suối Cỏ village since 2013. By developing new range of paper applied natural dyed techniques from local knowledge. Papermaker here makes paper from Dướng bark (Broussonetia papyrifera) which is widely grow in the north of Vietnam. Suối Cỏ is facing to a quick urban development so it is hard for us to find the next generation of papermaker here.
03. Nùng An ethnic
Phúc Sen, Cao Bằng
We started to work with this community since 2023. They have been making paper for many generations but mainly for spiritual purposes. We brought our papermaker to train them how to make big size paper with new tools. Also applying natural dyed from their local plants into the paper. They make paper from Maysla (local language for Broussonetia papyrifera).
04. Dao Đỏ ethnic
Tân Uyên, Lai Châu
We started to work with them since 2023. They make paper with bamboo. This village moved down into new location due to hydro power damn. So their papermaking is in the danger of being lost.
